  • CAVALCADE

    Winner of the 1933 Kentucky Derby, Cavalcade was stitched by Randi Paul-Heskins of Boca Raton, FL who's been stitching for over 50 years. Randi holds a certificate in hand embroidery from the Royal School of Needlework and was part of the team that worked on Kate Middleton's wedding dress.

  • JOE COTTON

    Stitched by Nan McGoldrick of Naples, FL, Joe Cotton won the 1885 Kentucky Derby. He was ridden by Erskine Henderson who became the sixth of eleven African-American jockeys to ever win the Kentucky Derby. Nan stitches everyday and hopes to get to Lexington to see the finished horse.

  • JUDGE HIMES

    Judge Himes won the 1903 Kentucky Derby and claimed a purse of $6,000. Compare that to the 2022 Kentucky Derby purse of $1,860,000! Judge Himes was stitched by self-taught stitcher and Etsy business owner Jenna Brister of Amarillo, TX.

  • IRAP

    Stitched by Cheryl Sivan of Boca Raton, FL, Irap won the Toyota Bluegrass Stakes at Keeneland Race Track in Lexington, Kentucky in 2017. He went on to run in the 2017 Kentucky Derby where Irap finished in 18th place.

  • WORTH

    A two-year-old, Worth won the 1912 Kentucky Derby. Worth was stitched by Kentuckian (now residing in Fox Point, WI) Alexandra Waltrip, who still loves all things “Derby,” and says it feels like Christmas!!

  • SWALE

    1984 Kentucky Derby winner Swale, went on to win the Belmont but came up short in the Preakness. Swale was stitched by Kelli Parmley of Lexington who rediscovered her love of needlepoint during the Pandemic and has made and self-finished over 70 ornaments!

  • NORTHERN DANCER

    In 1964, Northern Dancer became the first Canadian-born horse to win the Kentucky Derby. This canvas comes to us via New Orleans, LA from stitcher Tammy Eskridge who’s been stitching for 35 years and stitched this fun canvas in silk and bamboo. Laissez les bons temps rouler!!

  • GENUINE RISK

    The second filly to win the Kentucky Derby, The Firestone family stood in the Winners Circle with Genuine Risk after she won the 1980 Derby. This silk was stitched by Heather Lampman of Chagrin Falls, OH who’s been stitching for 52 years!

  • CANNONADE

    Won the 100th running of the Kentucky Derby in 1974. Stitched by Debby Powell of Versailles, KY, this is the fanciest (light background and no open stitches) silk we’ve received to date. Debby has been stitching for 66 years and has taught needlepoint and needlearts for 46 years.

  • MAN O WAR

    Regarded as the greatest racehorse of all time, Man O’ War, won both the Preakness and Belmont but was not entered in the Kentucky Derby. Man O’ War was stitched by Karen Barras of Lexington.

  • TOMY LEE

    Winning the 1959 Kentucky Derby, became only the second non-American bred horse to ever win the Derby. Tomy Lee was stitched by 35-year stitcher, Susan Terry of Lexington who works for the Meredith Collection!

  • GEORGE SMITH

    Won the 42nd running of the Kentucky Derby in 1916. His jockey silk was stitched by Cincinnati’s Rudy Saunders (aka Rudy the Prep), who’s been stitching and designing since he was eleven!

  • LUCKY DEBONAIRE

    Owned by the Ada L. Rice Stables, won the 1965 Run for the Roses. This unique jockey silk with its ALR monogram was stitched by Richmond, Kentucky’s Victoria Thomas who’s been stitching for 55 years!!

  • STONE STREET

    Won the 1908 Kentucky Derby and is stitched by Mary Elizabeth Mays, part-owner of Magic City Needlepoint in Birmingham, AL. During Covid, Mary Elizabeth stitched four large rugs!

  • JUSTIFY

    Winner of the Kentucky Derby in 2018 and went on to become the thirteenth winner of the coveted American Triple Crown trophy. Justify was stitched by avid horse lover and life-long eventer, Caroline Greathouse of Stamping Ground, Ky.

  • BIG BROWN

    Winner of the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby in 2008. Big Brown was stitched by Lori Mazza of Waste Knot Needlepoint in Falls Church, VA.

  • LIL E. TEE

    Kentucky Derby winner in 1992, Lil E. Tee scored one of the biggest upsets in Derby history. Stitched by Kelly Smith of Lexington who has bee stitching for over 40 years.

  • RIVA RIDGE

    Won the Kentucky Derby in 1972 and went on to win the Belmont Stakes that year. Stitched by Lexington’s Rhonda Gray who’s been stitching for close to 50 years!

  • MINE THAT BIRD

    Stitched by Kentuckian Eileen Chalk who now lives in Washington, MO won the 2009 Kentucky Derby where he went off at 50-1 odds! Eileen’s been stitching for 55ish years and says her hearts never left Kentucky!

  • SECRETARIAT

    One of the greatest racehorses of the 20th century, became the first horse to win the triple crown in 25 years in 1973. Stitched by Karen Johnson of Lexington!

  • WAR EMBLEM

    Winner of Kentucky Derby 2002. Stitched by Elisha Waltrip of Lexington, who’s been stitching for over 30 years!

  • CALIFORNIA CHROME

    Won the 2014 Kentucky Derby and went on to be named the 2014 and 2016 Horse of the Year. California Chrome was stitched by Ann McManus of Owensboro, KY who will turn 90 this year, making Ann the oldest NEIGHdlepoint stitcher! Interesting fact about Ann, who has stitched for over 75 years….her late husband was a Doctor who culminated his medical career as a cruise ship doctor….Ann traveled the seas with him where she stitched many pieces including two beautiful rugs!!

  • TIM TAM

    Owner Mike Cooper stitched the first jockey silk square which was used as part of the winning entry in Horsemania 2022. The silk was worn by Calumet Farm’s Tim Tam, winner of the 1958 Kentucky Derby.
